Free Optomtery Clinic

Free Optometry Clinic is carried out throughout the week for poor and deserving patients regardless of their paying capacity.

Free consultation given by Optometrist/Ophthalmologist 7 days a week

Free / subsidized cataract surgery for the blind (Surgical Supplies / Intraocular Lens Implants funded by Lady Fatemah Charitable Trust during 2008 and 2009)

Refraction Units

We have four refraction units in our Optometry clinic in which students are given access to use these units. In each units the necessary items like Trial box, cross cylinder, torch, Direct Ophthalmoscope, Retinoscope, Assessment charts etc are available. Students are encouraged to apply these tests to all patients and then report to their immediate supervisor and get their log books signed off.

Low Vision Assessment Clinic

LVA clinic was established in MMH in late 2000 with the help of Sight Savers International. Now MMH has its Low Vision clinic with all necessary tools related to Optical & Non Optical Aid, tools related to Orientation & mobility, different Visual function charts. Every 2nd year students has to completed set number of low vision cases before qualifying for final exam. All data is collected & then entered in the special software to evaluate step by step the progress of Low Vision clinic as well as to know about the diseases ratio

Contact Lenses

In Pakistan there is only 3 specialized Contact lenses resource centers funded by International Association of Contact Lens Educator (IACLE). MMH is proud to be one of them, and our Optometrist (Mr. Nasir Iqbal) is the resource coordinator of IACLE. All the necessary books, practical demonstration material (Soft Contact Lenses, Bandages Lenses, and Hard contact Lenses trial kits) are available and after necessary practical trainings students are encouraged to gain first-hand experience.

Orthoptics

As in our routine Optometric assessment, the role of Orthoptist has its unique importance. We have a trained Orthoptist on faculty (Ms. Sehrish Jabeen) who is well on the way to develop this state of the art Orthoptist clinic for district Chakwal, where no such facility exists.. In 2nd year university students has to complete the competencies in Orthotpics. All the recommended books / equipments related to such subjects are available.

Consultant Room

Qualified and experienced Ophthalmologist is available ensuring quality and adequacy of the service as well as training.

Dispensing/ Optical Shop

Fully equipped dispensing station and optical shop is available. Students get the training under the supervision of qualified Optician.

Pharmacy

Established pharmaceutical store containing quality medicines on reasonable price for the patients

Eye & Gynea Operation Theater

Well-equipped OT for eye with trained staff and qualified surgeon guaranteeing the best health care and surgical facilities

Human Resource Development

MMH is working on Human Resource Development by providing training in several technical & professional courses.

LOG 3 – Ocular Anatomy and Physiology
LOG 4 – Ocular Pathology and Common Eye Disorders, Ocular Pharmacology
LOG 5 – Refraction
LOG 6- Procedures for Ophthalmic Assessments
LOG 7 – Ophthalmic Instruments- Care and Maintenance
LOG8 – Delivery of Ocular Care
LOG 9 – Community Out reach
LOG 10 - Ophthalmic Appliances
LOG 11- Dispensing & closing
LOG 12- OT (exclusive practical)

After completion of LOG 5 students will go in Community Out reach for field activities & in evening students will also attend O.T to assist surgeon. In the last month of course students will do exclusively O.T

Admissions

Admissions are offered once a year usually in January. However, this schedule may be flexible.

Stipend

Rs.4, 000/= (Four Thousand Only/=) is paid to the trainee per month. No fee is charged for the course.

Durations

There is a total of 1 year duration in which the first six months Operation Theatre Training is done and in the last six months refraction, Retinoscopy and outreach practices are taught including the communication skills.

o Getting training of Refraction, Retinoscopy etc. from Optometrists.
o Going to outreach screening camps and SEHP visits in schools for children screening under the supervision of the optometrist and getting the training.

Accounts Trainee

Course overview

It is basically an on the job training and the students are encouraged to learn through practical experiences.

Admission Criteria

Intermediate or Graduates, preferably those still studying or want to study in Accounts, Administration or Management are eligible to apply.

Admissions are offered subject to the availability of the resources. Stipend

Students are paid Rs.4, 000/month as a stipend with a provision of 50% of University fee for further education.

Duration

2 years of training is offered but as the nature of the course is that it is an on the job training. Therefore; the duration can be extended depending upon the progress of the students.

Arif Hussain has completed MSC training in Community Eye Health successfully in Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology University of Peshawar during 2002-04
Khurram Shehzad completed BSc Vision Sciences course in 2003-2006, and gained a first position He has also seen BSC Honours course in Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology Peshawar 2006-2007.
Nasir Iqbal completed his BSc in Vision Sciences course in 2004-2007 and gained a first position. He also did a 2 weeks course in Low Vision Management in Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology Peshawar. In addition he went for 5 days for Orientation & Mobility course carried out in Punjab Special Education Department from 15th May 2006 to 20the May2006
Nasir Amir completed his BSc in Vision Sciences course in 2004-2007 and gained a second position. In addition he went for 5 days for Orientation & Mobility course carried out in Punjab Special Education Department from 15th May 2006 to 20the May2006
Asim Raza has completed his MBA Finance from Virtual University of Pakistan Lahore.
Mr Atif Bashir went for Operating Theatre assistant course in Al Shifa Eye Trust Rawalpindi from May06 to Nov 06
Tehmeena Naseer has completed her B.COM. and is now doing Hons. In Business Administration with specialization in Human Resource Management.
Saba Yasmeen has completed her Ophthalmic Technician Course Including Operation Theater Assistant (OTA) Training.
Robeena Kausar has completed her Ophthalmic Technician Course Including Operation Theater Assistant (OTA) Training.
M. Rizwan has completed his Operation Theater Assistant (OTA) training and is now enrolled in the course of Ophthalmic Technician.
